@CindyWMorrison deserves to speak on social media. She’s a savvy entrepreneur and an informative speaker.
Best of all, she’s making social media work for her business, with a tidal wave of pre-order requests for her upcoming book, Girlfriends 2.0.
Take aways:
Truth will come out. Don’t post anything online you would be ashamed to show your favorite customer, your mother, or your kids. They will find it eventually.
Technology is your friend. The best way to learn is to jump in. There are a lot of tools to help you save time (and therefore money) handling your social media interactions. HootSuite is a personal favorite. TweetDeck is another solid platform. FriendFeed and Ping.fm come highly recommended as well.
Have a heart. Cindy balances 20% personal anecdotes with 70% business-related social media posts. Networking 101: give people something to connect to.
It’s worth mentioning that LinkedIn and Plaxo expect more professional conduct, and less “OMG my dog is so adorable!” outbursts.
Don’t be trivial. On the flip side, very few people appreciate Twitter beat poetry. You know what I’m talking about.
“Eating a popsicle. Purple. Cold. Grapes are grand.”
Just, no.
Don’t be all talk. Interaction is the heart and soul of old-fashioned networking and social media. One-way relationships sour quickly without any interaction. Allocate part of your day strictly for interaction, striving to build relationships, not a one-way dictatorship.
